The Australian Search Dog Federation is the Peak Body representing Canine Handlers, Canines, Search Technicians and Canine Units in regulating K9 teams in all States and Territories in Australia under one National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme)
The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme came into effect on 01 July 2020. The National Scheme is designed to ensure that Canine Handlers, Canines, Search Technicians and Canine Units are all being Trained and Accredited under the same guidelines in all States and Territories across Australia.
Emergency Authorities can deploy canines knowing they have been Certified under the Federation.
When deploying ASDF Accredited canine units, Emergency Agencies have the comfort of knowing that these teams have access to similarly qualified resources from across Australia. Affiliated units of ASDF are Certified under identical conditions and standards.
In June 2012, the Hon Tony Abbott and Hon George Brandis stated in a joint press release that if elected the coalition was committed to the “creation of an Australian Search Dog Framework which will recognise and coordinate the resources and efforts of volunteers who work with search dogs across Australia”.
